Akemi Ueda Jensen is a Hawai’i-based designer and co-founder of the jewelry brand Paradisus, a line she creates with her mother, Linda Ueda, in 2001. With a professional background in biology and drug and medical device development, Akemi brought her analytical skills and passion for nature to the world of design before fully committing to jewelry full-time. Her work with Paradisus reflects a deep connection to Hawai‘i’s natural beauty and cultural heritage, drawing inspiration from local flora, ocean life, and traditional motifs. Twenty-five years ago, Paradisus started as a side project; today this jewelry label is still celebrated for its timeless, nature-inspired pieces.
xoMango is rooted in mother-daughter love with a mission to connect through jewelry and a love for empowering women and generations. Using naturally shaped pearls, gold, and silver, xoMango celebrates an important truth: you are of great worth. Each piece is designed and handmade by artist Mandy Moody, proud mom to Ella, a current senior at Punahou! With graduation and a new chapter nearing, it feels even more special for this mother-daughter duo to wear matching xoMango bracelets. They hope our jewelry acts as wearable reminders in your daily life, too.
Honolulu jewelry designer Debby Sato followed her creative bliss and began designing jewelry in 2006. Throughout her life, she’s had a passion for art and the environment, as she grew up exploring Hawaiian forests and the ocean. Debby earned her B.A. in environmental studies with an emphasis on botany. Today she combines both of her loves. Debby’s designs are inspired by the plants of Hawai‘i, the ocean, and the island lifestyle. The jewelry is made in Hawai‘i and/or ethically sourced and the sterling silver used in is made with recycled metal. The sterling silver and gold fill are zero waste. The shells and beach glass are collected in Hawai‘i and the shells are never collected “live.”
Born from Indian heritage and shaped by life in Hawai‘i for more than two decades, this jewelry brand reflects a refined blend of East and West. Designed by a mother-daughter duo, the collection draws inspiration from ocean movement, tropical landscapes, and organic form. With an emphasis on ethical sourcing, small-batch production, and timeless craftsmanship, each piece embodies understated luxury, cultural connection, and the effortless beauty of island life. Kamna Upadhyaya draws inspiration from ancient adornment, sunlit shores, ocean textures, and tropical landscapes. Working closely for many years with her daughter, Divya Upadhyaya, whose skilled craftsmanship and contemporary perspective enrich the creative process, each piece becomes a shared expression of heritage and evolution.
Lauren Salm, the designer and founder of GAMAR Jewellery, is a 2002 Punahou graduate, whose first exposure to jewelry-making was at Punahou. After 15+ years working internationally in eco-cultural project development (as well as fine art painting on the side), Lauren launched her jewelry business in 2024 as a way to bring together in beautiful wearable form her endless inspiration from the world’s natural, cultural and cosmological heritage, and most especially from her Hawai‘i home. Lauren lives and designs between Hawai‘i and Paris, creating fine and demi-fine jewelry that celebrates both internal and external beauty, as well as the mystical connections that enrich our unique life journeys. GAMAR’s Night Blooming Cereus, Ohia Lehua and Punahou medallion necklaces can be customised to include personalised inscriptions on the back.
Founded in 1979 by artist and lifelong surfer Leighton Lam (Class of 1974), Leighton Lam Designs began as a personal exploration of resin, color, and form, shaped by a deep connection to the ocean and life in Hawai‘i. What started as one artist’s practice has grown into a second-generation family endeavor, still grounded in the same curiosity and hands-on approach. Today, Leighton works alongside his daughter, Kaily Lam Smitson (Class of 2002), continuing the studio’s work in Honolulu. Rooted in heritage and place, their jewelry reflects decades of creating and living in Hawai‘i, capturing the islands and their aloha spirit with authenticity and artistic grace.
Chun Hui Chen-DeCosta was born in Taiwan and immigrated to Hawai’i at age 4. She grew up in East O‘ahu and went the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. During junior year of college, she studied abroad in Kobe, Japan and fell in love with the Japanese culture and the modern, minimalist aesthetic. She then completed her MBA at UH Mānoa and started working for a luxury jewelry company. After being laid off during the 2008 Recession, she embarked on an entrepreneurial journey–she wanted to create art that she could wear and share with friends and family. “Komakai” means “delicate” and “fine details” in Japanese. “Makai” means “Toward the sea” in Hawaiian. She strives to infuse these elements into each piece of jewelry, which she designs and makes by hand. Her mission is to design timeless, modern pearl and gemstone jewelry that you will cherish and feel beautiful wearing all day, every day.

In the past 15 years, it has grown into a full line of elevated island-inspired jewelry. From the ocean to the mountains, Hawai‘i is a constant source of inspiration for Misha.
